From One EDM to a 700-Person Campus Launch: Why Follow-Ups Matter

By Harinder Rana, Founder — Fervent  ·  4 min read

The biggest event of our early years began with the smallest possible assignment: one EDM.

For years after Fervent was registered in 2011, I kept in touch with a marketing leader at a global networking company. Meeting after meeting, follow-up after follow-up. No mandate came. We kept in touch anyway — not to pester, but because I genuinely believed that when the opportunity came, we would be ready.

The progression

In November 2014, we finally got a brief: a single email campaign. In December, a small partner event — a couple of standees. In early 2015, a three-city roadshow. And then, in March, the call that changed our scale forever: launch their new data centre and campus in Bengaluru.

I travelled for what I thought was a two-day recce. I came home twelve days later, after the launch.

What 700 people actually takes

A team of fourteen or fifteen people managed a superstructure for 700 guests, branding across an eleven-floor building, experiential zones on office floors, logistics for close to forty CIOs, data-centre tours, an executive dinner and a large evening event — simultaneously. Then it rained, and we rebuilt parts of the environment overnight.

It became our benchmark project for years — proof that we could deliver premium complexity across logistics, content, environment and executive engagement.

The lesson I give every young salesperson

Large opportunities almost always arrive dressed as small ones. If we had treated that first EDM as beneath us, the 700-person launch would have gone to someone else. Follow-ups are not about persistence for its own sake — they are about staying present, staying useful, and delivering the small things so well that the big things become inevitable.

Let’s build something people remember.

Flagship events, activations, exhibitions, films and B2B demand — one partner, end to end.
